Our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten: 'Kick-Off' Celebration was a great success!

Couldn't make the celebration? No worries! It's not too late to sign your child up for this exciting new program, which encourages and helps parents to read 1000 books to their child before entering kindergarten. Just stop by Children's & Teen Services at any time for additional information and a program packet.

We have recently added an amazing new database for children to our collection. Check out Scholastic TrueFlix, available from our homepage. All you need is a CPL card to gain access.

Scholastic TrueFlix provides not only digitized versions of their wonderful nonfiction True Books, but also corresponding videos, activities and more!

Free LI Aquarium Admission & Dental Screening

February is National Children's Dental Health Month. In celebration, members of the Suffolk County Dental Society are hosting a special event at the Long Island Aquarium.  Children, ages 1-17 (w/a parent or legal guardian), will receive each of the following for FREE:

• Admission to the aquarium (plus one free adult admission per child)
• Children's dental screening, cleaning & fluoride treatment
• Goodie bag
• Dental sealants (if appropriate)
• Puppet show and dental health education throughout the day
• Lionel Train exposition
• Eligibility to enter the Tooth Fairy drawing contest

Every year, librarians give the Caldecott Medal to one special artist and their picture book.
